VivanTech Unveils Industry’s First iPhone Application for Remote Access to Kuali Capabilities

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - October 14, 2010 VivanTech, a premier Kuali commercial affiliate and developer of open-source software for the enterprise, announced the industry's first mobile application for Kuali. VivanTech's new iPhone application empowers enterprise users to securely access Kuali capabilities on–the–go and from the convenience of their smart phones. Kuali is a growing community of universities, colleges, businesses, and other organizations that have partnered to build and sustain open-source software for higher education. With the new iPhone app, VivanTech is delivering on its strategy of developing expanded functionality, including mobile capabilities, for the Kuali community.

  • Android, Blackberry and iPad versions now available: VivanTech delivers the industry’s first Android, Blackberry and iPad mobile applications for Kuali.

  • Patent pending on VivanTech’s mobile app: VivanTech’s unique method enables mobile users to selectively display and sort items. In addition, it can utilize the geolocation technology built into many of today’s smart phones.

The concept behind this mobile application was inspired by our deep experience with Kuali implementations and proven track record at educational institutions, such as the University of Southern California," said Dirk Merkel, CTO, VivanTech. "We are excited to announce the industry's first mobile application for Kuali, which we developed based on feedback from our customer base and the rapid increase of dependence on smartphone technology.

The Kuali iPhone app performs secure user authentication with the Kuali enterprise backend and features the ability to view or approve workflow items and other administrative transactions. Future product releases will add advanced Kuali functionality based on individual client needs. The Android version of the application is currently in development. The iPhone app is available immediately from VivanTech but not through the Apple App Store. This is a custom application that must be implemented uniquely for each university.

VivanTech will be demonstrating the new iPhone application at the upcoming Kuali Days Conference in San Diego, November 8–10, 2010.
